Directions for Planting and Care
Planting and caring for your Crape Myrtle - Garden Debut® Thunderstruck™ Lavender Skies™ is a straightforward process, making it easy to enjoy its beautiful blooms and sturdy growth all season long:
Planting
Select the Right Location: Choose a sunny spot for your Thunderstruck™ Lavender Skies™ Crape Myrtle, as it thrives in full sunlight. This variety needs at least 6 hours of sun per day to produce vibrant lavender flowers.
Prepare the Soil: Ensure the soil is well-draining and slightly acidic to neutral. If the soil is heavy or clayey, amend it with compost to improve drainage and ensure the plant’s roots can establish properly.
Dig a Proper Hole: Dig a hole that is about twice the width of the root ball and the same depth. This provides enough space for the roots to expand and grow into the surrounding soil.
Plant the Tree: Gently remove the tree from its container and position it in the center of the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Carefully break up the root system if necessary to help the plant establish more easily.
Backfill with Soil: Fill the hole with native soil, making sure the plant is straight and stable. Tamp the soil lightly to eliminate air pockets that could affect root growth.
Water Thoroughly: After planting, water the Crape Myrtle deeply to settle the soil and provide moisture for the roots, ensuring a good start for your plant.
Care
Mulching: Apply 2-3 inches of organic mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and prevent weed growth. Be sure to leave space around the trunk to avoid rot.
Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to help the plant establish itself. Once established, Thunderstruck™ Lavender Skies™ becomes drought-tolerant and requires less frequent watering, but should still be watered deeply during prolonged dry periods.
Pruning: Prune the tree in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead or damaged branches and any weak growth to encourage a healthy structure and abundant blooms.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the early spring to promote vibrant blooms and healthy foliage throughout the growing season.
Crape Myrtle - Garden Debut® Thunderstruck™ Lavender Skies™ is a stunning, low-maintenance addition to your landscape. With its graceful lavender flowers, disease resistance, and minimal care requirements, this tree will add color and sophistication to your garden year after year.
