New Jersey Tea is a compact rounded native shrub with young twigs that are noticeably yellow and broad toothed leaves with hairy grey undersides.  Cylindrical panicles of fragrant white flowers bloom on long stems in late spring into summer.  Best planted in dry to medium well-drained soils.  Extremely drought resistant.

 Ceanothus americanus is a host plant for Mottled Duskywing, Spring Azure, and Summer Azure butterflies, an d several moths.  Learn more about planting for butterflies with Georgia natives with this brochure.
